Captiva is ideal for lazy days on the beach, but for fidgety vacationers there are plenty of opportunities to get out and play. Unlike neighboring Sanibel, where jetskis and waverunners are strictly forbidden, Captiva allows adrenaline junkies to zip through its warm waves on a variety of watercraft. Sailing, yachting, and fishing charters are extremely popular here. Perhaps hop to the mainland to sample Fort Myers’ offerings. Next door on Sanibel, the JN Darling National Wildlife Refuge boasts 7,000 acres of wilderness, ripe for kayaking, canoeing, fishing, and hiking. Boardwalk bike trails and well-maintained nature trails run parallel to most of the island’s major thoroughfares.
